Film-maker Residency at Broomhouse Centre
Broomhouse Centre & Enterprises in Edinburgh would like to invite a film-maker or moving image artist to apply to spend 3 months in one of the most interesting communities in Edinburgh. The residency is based in our new community hub, opening in autumn 2019. It is great diversity, while also an area of high child and in-work poverty in Edinburgh, with some of the highest deprivation in Scotland.
We welcome applications from Scottish based artist film-makers, at any stage of their career, to undertake a three-month residency in the new hub, suitable for someone who may need the time and space to develop their own practice within a community setting. We are looking for a film-maker whose practice has a socially engaged or collaborative element and is concerned with issues of space, place and community.
Since 2015, Broomhouse Centre has developed relationships with a number of creative organisations and individuals in the Edinburgh area. The organisation provides an opportunity to build upon these relationships, whilst also interrogating the physical and social specificities of the area.
Rather than working towards a predefined outcome, the film-maker will be given the necessary time and creative mentoring support to develop their own ideas, and / or ideas in relation to the place.
There will be free use of a small private studio/workspace in the new Broomhouse Hub, for the three months of the residency. No charges will be made for the space or overheads. The single requirement is that a small number of skill based film-making workshops are offered to services, for young people or others, such as parents, carers, with mental health issues, or those with dementia. The workshops will be for three to four hours maximum per month, and we will pay for these based on Scottish Artist Union rates. Space will be provide for the workshops, free of charge. We will support any outcomes from the residency with one or more public screening events.
We regret we are unable to offer additional budget support for living, accommodation expenses or production costs at this stage.
The film-maker will be actively supported by Broomhouse Hub staff, who will help build working relationships, with the permission of the people in our services, or in the community or indeed, other community groups in the area. The residency will commence Autumn 2019.
If you would like to apply to be the Film-maker in residence, we require:
• A statement of intent : what you plan to do while based at the new Broomhouse Hub.
• Six to eight images and/or short clips of recent work (vimeo or youtube links).
• An up to date artistic CV, including a statement about your practice.
If you require further information, please email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
The deadline is 5pm, Fri 30 August 2019.’
