Big Hearts Befrienders

We are looking for male and female volunteers to support young people aged 7-14 years within Kinship Care.

Big Hearts Community Trust approached The Broomhouse Centre & Enterprises in 2016 about starting a befriending service. This was due to the model already working well in the South West of the City. This service would be for young people in Kinship Care. In October 2016 Big Hearts Befrienders was launched!

This is a city wide project.

The aim with befriending is to support the young person in a 1:1 relationship to learn new skills, help their confidence, self-esteem and have one reliable person to talk too.

Kinship Care is when children and young people are living with grandparents or a close relative on a regular basis.

Volunteers would come from the fan base of Heart of Midlothian Football Club and the referrals would come from primarily Mentor UK.

Training to become a Big Hearts Befriender is 1 evening a week for 4 weeks.  (6.00-8.30pm). The training is held at Tynecastle Stadium.

How can I become a volunteer?

Please contact Jane, Big Hearts Befrienders Project Worker, who can talk through the journey of a Big Hearts Befriender.
