Volunteer With Us
DO YOU HAVE 2/3 HOURS SPARE A WEEK AND A PASSION TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE??????
The Befriending Consortium is an exciting collaboration between Crossreach Sunflower Garden and Broomhouse Youth Befriending Project. It is designed to support 60 young people aged 5-16 across east and west Edinburgh who are affected by parental drug and alcohol use, who may be isolated and may feel unable to take part in activities.
Could you volunteer
Could you volunteer to befriend a young person aged 5 to 16 who has been affected by parental drug and alcohol use? Spending positive time on a one-to-one basis, having fun, listening, helping to build their self-confidence and opening up new opportunities for a year?
We are looking to recruit both male and female volunteers (aged over 18 years old) who can commit to 2-3hrs a week (outside of school hours) for one year to befriend a young person. You will be expected to give one year’s commitment to the project to provide continuity for the young person.
Comprehensive training is provided by The Befriending Consortium (BC) and aims to prepare volunteers fully for their befriending role. Training takes place one evening a week (6-8.30pm) for six weeks.
Once you have completed your training, you will be allocated to a base in Edinburgh: East Edinburgh- City Centre or West Edinburgh Broomhouse, and have the support of a full-time Project Worker. Each base is packed with games, resources, and ideas for things to do.
Out of pocket expenses are reimbursed for travelling and activities.
To apply, please complete the Volunteer Application Form and e-mail to email@example.com or post you application form to Amanda Farquhar, Project Manager Youth Befriending, The Broomhouse Centre, 79-89 Broomhouse Crescent, Edinburgh, EH11 3RH.
Once we have received your application, we will be in contact with you to discuss the next steps.
